I had a strange experience with this film. I watched the film in 2D first and thought it was OK, a bit overlong maybe. But watching it a second time in 3D I was amazed to be sucked in to the film's world the way I was.
It isn't even that strong a conversion, with many scenes shot in such a way that the 3D struggles to make much of an impact. But simply having depth and volume to people and objects, having flying cars actually flying out in a 3D space, well that makes all the difference and delivers the immersion that a 2D viewing just can't.
I haven't had such a transformative experience in a long time and it's 3D I have to thank for that. Watching movies like this in 3D is like living in the future, after doing that you just can't go back to 2D without feeling a great sense of loss.
As a stand alone film this was just okay. If, like me, you loved the original, you'll be sorely disappointed.
The visual spectacle I expected didn't really unfold, and I wasn't able to invest in any of the characters. In the original I felt sympathy for Rutger Hauer's character, even though he was the "bad guy", but in this one I didn't even care about Ryan Gosling's character.

The films seminal opening sequence is made as breathtaking as I remember it from watching it in the cinema and the sound quality is excellent, highlighting and enhancing scenes throughout the movie.
The other discs include the original film release which was a studio butchered version of Ridley Scott's vision.
His original directors cut release and the fourth disc is a ' working print'. This last version is the film in 'progress ', a print shown to studio execs and test audiences so it's quality in picture and sound is a bit rough, but it gives a fascinating insight into the film making process as it has subtle differences to the final print.
This alone if your like myself a true fan of this film, coupled with the Blue Ray version makes the cost of this box set worthwhile. Add in the two other versions, making of documentary the model, makes it a must have.

Great to have all versions of this great movie in HD. No doubt that it's a great movie but this 'boxset' could be better. Packaging a bit flimsy and random art-work.
The 'Spinner' model car is only slightly better quality than what you may expect to find from a Kinder Egg. There's a rushed to print book of archive material, not enough to get excited about and all from material you can find in earlier DVD boxset's or simply on google.
A bit of a rush job all round really but so what, stick the film on, The final cut is great, just a slightly expensive way to get the film in HD with the additional 'mark-up' tat that's included.
