Despite his wands' popularity, he can easily remember the materials and attributes of every wand he has ever sold, as well as its owner.
In Philosopher's Stone , Ollivander assists year-old Harry in selecting his first wand. Finding Harry a particularly difficult customer to match, Ollivander finally selects an eleven-inch-long wand made of holly containing a phoenix feather later revealed to have come from Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes , which is perfectly suited to Harry.
Ollivander is intrigued that this particular wand would suit Harry, and reveals that Fawkes contributed only one other feather, to the wand being used by Voldemort.

The Peverell lineage continues through its living descendants, including Harry and his children. After Hermione saw the symbol of the Deathly Hallows on Ignotus Peverell's grave in Godric's Hollow, Harry recalled Marvolo Gaunt boasting that his ring held the Peverell coat of arms on it, thus realising that the three brothers were the Peverells.
Harry deduces that he is descended from Ignotus, as the cloak is passed down through his family. Furthermore, Rowling has confirmed that Harry and Voldemort are indeed distant relatives because of their relation to the Peverells, as the majority of wizard families share common ancestry.
Antioch Peverell was the eldest of the three Peverell brothers, and owner of the Elder Wand. He was killed in his sleep after bragging about the wand's invincibility, having won a duel with it.
The murderer then stole the Elder Wand, thus initiating its bloody history. Cadmus Peverell was the middle of the three Peverell brothers, and owner of the Resurrection Stone.
Using the Stone, he resurrected the girl he had once hoped to marry, who had died an untimely death. Though she had returned to the mortal world, she did not truly belong there and suffered.
Driven mad by this, he killed himself to join her. The Stone was later embedded in a ring that ended up belonging to Marvolo Gaunt.
Ignotus Peverell was the youngest of the three Peverell brothers, described in The Tales of Beedle the Bard as "the humblest and the wisest of the brothers".
He was the owner of the Cloak of Invisibility , due to which, unlike his brothers, he avoided dying for many years, living a full and long life, and ultimately "greeting Death as a friend.
Unlike other cloaks of invisibility, it has never shown any kind of fading or damage despite the cloak being passed down through many generations of the Peverell family and ultimately to Harry.
Harry is therefore a descendant of Ignotus Peverell. Both by birthright and by blood relations, Harry Potter is the rightful owner of the three Deathly Hallows, [HP7] yet he decides to keep the Cloak only, returning the Elder Wand to Dumbledore's tomb after using it only to repair his own holly wand, and leaving the Resurrection Stone lost in the Forbidden Forest.
In the film Deathly Hallows Part 2 , Harry destroys the Elder Wand, snapping it in half and throwing the pieces off a bridge.
Madam Rosmerta is the landlady of The Three Broomsticks pub. She is described in the books as "a curvy sort of woman" with curly hair; several students—including Ron—have a crush on her.
In Prisoner of Azkaban , Madam Rosmerta is angered when Dementors are in Hogsmeade as their presence is scaring away many of her customers. Apart from hosting an informal meeting between McGonagall, Cornelius Fudge , Filius Flitwick , and Hagrid, she does not play a major role in the early part of the Harry Potter series.
In Half-Blood Prince it emerges that in order to fulfil his mission to assassinate Dumbledore, Draco has managed to place Rosmerta under the Imperius Curse.
He uses her to pass on a cursed necklace to Hogwarts student Katie Bell , who accidentally touches the necklace and is herself subjected to the very harmful curse intended for the Headmaster.
Draco also commands her to send a bottle of poisoned mead to Horace Slughorn intending it to be a Christmas present for Dumbledore, after overhearing Hermione mentioning that the school security would not recognise something put in a mislabelled bottle, and knowing that a package from Rosmerta would not be checked.
Malfoy communicates with Rosmerta through enchanted fake Galleons. After Harry and Dumbledore's adventure in the cave to retrieve a locket they believe to be one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, they apparate to Hogsmeade, where Madam Rosmerta alerts them to the presence of the Dark Mark above the school and gives them brooms on which they can travel rapidly back to Hogwarts, where Draco's plan can be brought to completion.
Rosmerta is among those paying respects at Dumbledore's funeral. She is named after the Gaulish goddess Rosmerta , whose attributes include abundance and fertility.
Stan Shunpike is the young, pimply conductor of the Knight Bus. He speaks with a Cockney accent and talks to Harry as he travels to London in the first part of Prisoner of Azkaban.
He also appears briefly in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at the Quidditch World Cup, boasting to a group of Veela, the Bulgarian team's official mascot, of his ambitious plans to become the next Minister of Magic.
Harry and Dumbledore, however, believe that he is almost certainly not guilty. Even so, Stan is kept in Azkaban in order for the Ministry of Magic to give the pretence that progress is being made in the capturing of Death Eaters.
When the new Minister for Magic asks Harry to be a sort of mascot for the Ministry, Harry refuses on the grounds of the Ministry's actions at the time — namely holding Stan under arrest.
Harry gives himself away to his attackers by attempting to only disarm Stan, as Harry believes him to be under the Imperius Curse, and is later reprimanded by Remus Lupin.
Later on, when Harry, Ron and Hermione are captured in the forest by Fenrir Greyback, Ron attempts to pose as Stan only to be immediately disbelieved and told Stan has "put a bit of work their way" referring to turning in missing or wanted Muggle-borns.
Stan was portrayed by Lee Ingleby in the film adaptation of Prisoner of Azkaban. Rita Skeeter is a reporter for the Daily Prophet and a correspondent for the Witch Weekly , who specialises in tabloid journalism , for which she is armed with such magical devices as the Quick-Quotes Quill.
Rita is an unregistered Animagus , capable of transforming into a beetle to spy on unsuspecting victims for her stories, which she is revealed to have done multiple times in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
As a reporter who fabricates information to write an appealing story, she is a nuisance to Harry and his friends throughout Goblet of Fire , and a brief but reluctant ally in Order of the Phoenix.
She is described as having curly blonde hair, jewelled spectacles, thick fingers with two-inch long nails painted crimson, a crocodile-skin handbag, and a heavy jawed face.
Harry first encounters Rita when she interviews the Triwizard Tournament contestants for an article in the Daily Prophet , which turns out to be a highly falsified story on Harry himself.
During the situations where Rita overhears information, the book subtly refers to her presence: Viktor Krum mentions that Hermione has a water beetle in her hair, and during the Yule Ball, she overhears Hagrid telling Madame Maxime that he is half-giant, Harry having noticed a beetle on a nearby statue.
During a Divinations class, Harry falls asleep and hears an "insect clicking. Rita, in revenge, then writes a nasty story about Hermione based on false rumours provided by Pansy Parkinson , making her out to be a plain but skilled witch who uses love potions to "satisfy her taste for celebrity wizards," including Harry and Krum.
Rita's last defaming article states that Harry is "disturbed and dangerous," and uses comments from Draco and his Slytherin cronies as its basis.
Ultimately, Hermione discovers the means by which Rita Skeeter spies on others and forces her to "keep her quill to herself for a full year", threatening to report her to the authorities as an illegal Animagus.
Her last article discredits Harry and serves as the basis for Cornelius Fudge's refusal to believe Harry's story about Voldemort's return.
It is also the start of the Ministry's smear campaign against Harry and Dumbledore. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Hermione blackmails Rita by threatening to reveal that she is an Animagus and forces her to interview Harry about Voldemort's return.
She then must submit her story to The Quibbler. Rita later makes a brief appearance in Half-Blood Prince , where Harry is infuriated to notice her clutching a notebook at Dumbledore's funeral.
Although Rita does not make an appearance in Deathly Hallows, she is mentioned on numerous occasions throughout the novel, generally in a negative light in relation to her unauthorised biography of Dumbledore entitled The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore.
The book depicts the former headmaster in an extremely negative light but is mostly based on truth, much to Harry's horror. It is implied that she gained some of her information in unethical or illegal ways.
I imagine she immediately dashed off a biography of Harry after he defeated Voldemort. One quarter truth to three-quarters rubbish.
It has been speculated that the fraught relationship between Rowling and the press was the inspiration for the author to develop the character.
However, Rowling noted in that the character actually predates her rise to fame. Potter you're back! She wasn't called Rita then but she was a woman.
And then I thought, as I looked at the plot overall, I thought, that's not really where she fits best, she fits best in Four when Harry's supposed to come to terms with his fame.
Hepzibah Smith is introduced within Dumbledore's Pensieve , as part of a series of memories shown to Harry by his headmaster probing into Voldemort's past.
She is described as having been an extremely wealthy, well-born old witch who enjoyed collecting antiques and collectibles.
In the memory, Hepzibah wears long robes and gowns of pink, and when sitting upon her throne-like chair, she is described as giving the impression of a large "melting iced cake".
She wears a large, elaborate, ginger wig upon her head and dabs her red cheeks with rouge. Tom Riddle , fresh out of Hogwarts and working for Borgin and Burkes , visits Hepzibah to make an offer for some goblin-made armour which she owns.
He presents her with flowers and charms and flatters her. Enamoured of Riddle, Hepzibah shows him her most prized possessions — a cup, owned by her ancestor Helga Hufflepuff , and a locket which once belonged to Salazar Slytherin , that she had purchased from Borgin and Burkes.
Two days after the events of the memory occurred, Hepzibah died, and Hufflepuff's cup and Slytherin's locket were never found.
Andromeda Tonks is the mother of Nymphadora Tonks. The middle sister, she was burned off the family tapestry in Number 12, Grimmauld Place by her aunt Walburga and estranged from the family because she married Ted Tonks , a Muggle-born wizard.
She was Sirius Black 's favourite cousin. Andromeda is responsible for giving her daughter the name "Nymphadora", [32] a name like those typical of her family.
She has a talent for household spells and cleanliness, lacked by her husband and daughter. She is not introduced until the beginning of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
She strongly resembles her sister Bellatrix, so much so that Harry thinks she is Bellatrix upon first meeting her, but Andromeda is kind looking and has soft brown rather than black hair.
She and Ted are later tortured for information on Harry's whereabouts. For someone who is not a member of the Order of the Phoenix, the war with Voldemort and his followers exacts a very heavy toll on Andromeda: her husband, her daughter, her son-in-law and her sister are all killed.
Rowling stated in an interview that after the war, Andromeda raises Teddy Lupin , her grandson. She is never seen in the films.
Edward "Ted" Tonks is a Muggle-born wizard who is described as a "fair-haired, big-bellied man". He marries Andromeda Black.
Their marriage led to his wife's disownment by the rest of her strict pure-blood family. Ted and Andromeda are the parents of Nymphadora Tonks.
Ted plays an active role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Near the beginning of the novel, his home is a hideout for Harry and Hagrid, as the two are on the run from Voldemort.
His home holds the Portkey that helps Harry escape to The Burrow. Later due to Ted's refusal to register as a Muggle-born, he is one of the Muggle-born wizards to flee the Ministry's new oppressive regime after the Death Eaters take over.
Soon after, Ted is murdered by Snatchers who also kill Gornuk and Cresswell. Oliver Wood is Captain and keeper of the Gryffindor Quidditch team in the first three novels and was first introduced in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
He is simply described as being big and burly. Wood is a talented and keen player and a born leader as captain, but also tends to act as a taskmaster due to his obsession with the game; he never cancels practices, poor weather conditions notwithstanding, and holds training sessions in early morning hours.
Although Oliver is in general a nice person, he lacks tact. Oliver appears briefly in Goblet of Fire , when he excitedly introduces Harry to his parents at the Quidditch World Cup and announces that he joined the Puddlemere United reserve team.
He is one of many Hogwarts students, past and present, who take part in the Battle of Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows , and is among the survivors of the first clash; Harry sees him assisting Neville Longbottom in carrying the body of Colin Creevey.
He is four years above Harry in Gryffindor. Oliver Wood was portrayed by Sean Biggerstaff in the first two films and once again in the eighth film.
Using a series of flashbacks, Rowling describes how the Prime Minister is aware of the existence of the wizarding world, through several meetings with Fudge that include his first night as Prime Minister, the night in which Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban , the notification of the incident in the Quidditch World Cup and the announcement of the importation of dragons and a sphinx for the Triwizard Tournament, and finally the Azkaban mass break-out from the fifth book.

Vengono descritti come ragazzi grossi e stupidi, che agiscono come scagnozzi di Draco Malfoy e impiegano la loro stazza per bullizzare gli altri studenti.
I loro padri sono entrambi Mangiamorte. Ne L'Ordine della Fenice Tiger e Goyle diventano battitori della squadra di Quidditch della loro casa ed entrano a far parte della squadra d'inquisizione di Dolores Umbridge.
A tal proposito Tiger evoca l' Ardemonio , ma l'incantesimo gli sfugge di mano e lui stesso rimane ucciso tra le fiamme, mentre Draco e Goyle vengono salvati dai tre [48] [49].
Arrogante e vanitoso, fa parte della cerchia di amici di Draco Malfoy e ne Il principe mezzosangue del Lumaclub. Viene spesso vista in gruppo con altre ragazze della sua casa e fa parte della cerchia di amici di Draco Malfoy , insieme al quale partecipa al Ballo del Ceppo ne Il calice di fuoco.
Ne L'Ordine della Fenice viene nominata prefetto ed entra a far parte della squadra di inquisizione di Dolores Umbridge. Ha inoltre una smisurata passione per le creature di tutti i tipi, anche per quelle considerate pericolose o non addomesticabili [54].
Appare come una donna anziana, severa ma anche competente e giusta. Partecipa alla battaglia di Hogwarts organizzando e coordinando le difese della scuola [56] [57].
Ne I Doni della Morte partecipa alla battaglia di Hogwarts, nella quale pone diversi incantesimi difensivi sulla scuola prima dell'attacco dei Mangiamorte e sconfigge in duello Antonin Dolohov [58].
Ne La camera dei segreti collabora con Madama Chips alla guarigione delle vittime pietrificate dal Basilisco , tramite una pozione ricavata dalle Mandragole.
Ne I Doni della Morte dapprima duella contro Severus Piton , con l'aiuto dei colleghi Filius Vitious e Minerva McGranitt , e poi partecipa alla battaglia di Hogwarts, nella quale insieme agli studenti scaglia piante velenose sui Mangiamorte [59].
Le uniche due vere profezie che effettua sono inconsce e ispirate da uno stato di trance. La prima avvenne poco prima della nascita di Harry durante un colloquio con Silente, sull'imminente nascita di un bambino col potere di sconfiggere Voldemort; la prima parte della profezia venne ascoltata da Severus Piton e riferita a Voldemort stesso, risultando nell'attacco ai Potter.
La seconda avviene ne Il prigioniero di Azkaban e preannuncia la rinascita di Voldemort. Partecipa alla battaglia di Hogwarts, lanciando le sue sfere di cristallo dai piani superiori e ferendo Fenrir Greyback [60].
Su ordine di Voldemort cerca nel corso dell'anno di uccidere Harry e di impossessarsi della pietra filosofale. Quando Raptor tenta di sottrarre l'artefatto al giovane con la forza, la magia di protezione posta su di lui dalla madre Lily e l'arrivo di Silente costringono Voldemort alla fuga, lasciandosi dietro il corpo senza vita del professore.
A causa delle sue maniere eccessivamente melense e pompose, si attira subito l'antipatia degli altri professori e degli studenti.
Quando nella camera dei segreti Harry e Ron scoprono il suo segreto, Allock tenta di cancellare la memoria anche a loro, ma l'incantesimo gli si ritorce contro a causa della bacchetta danneggiata che impugna, gettandolo in uno stato di totale amnesia.
Rowling ha affermato che Allock prende ispirazione da una persona da lei realmente conosciuta, simile in tutto e per tutto nei comportamenti alla sua controparte fittizia [64].
Ne L'Ordine della Fenice , su richiesta di Silente, accetta di assumere la cattedra di Divinazione a Hogwarts, in seguito al licenziamento, da parte di Dolores Umbridge , di Sibilla Cooman ; per questo motivo viene bandito dal suo branco, che reputa un tradimento la sua sottomissione agli umani.
Dopo il reintegro di Cooman ne Il principe mezzosangue , lei e Fiorenzo si dividono i corsi di Divinazione [65]. Pur essendo un uomo ambizioso rappresenta un'eccezione allo stereotipo che vede i Serpeverde arroganti, malefici e sostenitori della purezza di sangue e di Voldemort; preferisce infatti evitare ruoli di primo piano e circondarsi di persone influenti o dall'avvenire brillante, che seleziona all'interno di una cerchia ristretta di studenti favoriti, detta Lumaclub, senza nutrire alcun pregiudizio nei confronti di mezzosangue e nati babbani.
Con il ritorno di Voldemort, Lumacorno si nasconde per timore di essere costretto dai Mangiamorte a convertirsi alla loro causa. Ne Il principe mezzosangue Silente cerca di convincerlo a tornare a insegnare, da una parte per colmare la carenza di professori a Hogwarts e dall'altra per estrargli il ricordo nel quale anni prima aveva spiegato a Tom Riddle , allora suo studente, come diventare immortale grazie agli Horcrux , ricordo che Lumacorno aveva corrotto e modificato per la vergogna di sentirsi responsabile nell'ascesa di quello che sarebbe poi diventato Voldemort.
Gazza possiede una gatta, Mrs Purr Mrs Norris , che lo aiuta a pattugliare i corridoi della scuola e corre ad avvisarlo quando avvista degli studenti in contravvenzione alle regole.
Ne La camera dei segreti Mrs Purr viene pietrificata temporaneamente dal Basilisco. Descritta come una strega paziente, cortese e amante del duro lavoro, caratteristiche che ricercava nei membri della sua casa, era estremamente abile negli incantesimi, in particolar modo in quelli culinari.
Sua era la piccola coppa d'oro dai poteri misteriosi poi trasformata in Horcrux da Voldemort [72]. Possedeva un diadema che aumenta la conoscenza di chi lo indossa e che le venne rubato da sua figlia Helena.
Il nome italiano del personaggio ha subito molte variazioni dovute alla traduzione. Originariamente fu chiamata Priscilla Pecoranera, tuttavia il cognome, a partire dalla prima edizione de Il calice di fuoco e in tutte le ristampe, fu modificato in Corvonero a causa del simbolo della sua casa, ossia un rapace.
Fu un noto rettilofono e un esperto legilimante. Da lui discende la famiglia Gaunt , e di conseguenza Lord Voldemort.
Era in possesso di un medaglione con inciso il suo blasone, poi trasformato in Horcrux dallo stesso Voldemort [72].
Salazar Serpeverde ha ispirato il nome di una nuova specie di serpente, scoperta nel da un team di ricercatori indiani e battezzata Trimeresurus salazar [73] [74].
Deve il suo soprannome alla tendenza a piangere, lagnarsi e rinfacciare la sua morte a chiunque. Cinquant'anni prima dell'inizio della storia era una studentessa di Corvonero e fu la prima e unica vittima del Basilisco quando la camera dei segreti fu aperta la prima volta.
Aiuta Harry in due occasioni: ne La camera dei segreti lo aiuta a scoprire l'ubicazione della camera dei segreti stessa e ne Il calice di fuoco gli fornisce alcuni indizi per risolvere l'indovinello della seconda prova del Torneo Tremaghi.
Ne Il principe mezzosangue consola Draco Malfoy preoccupato dai suoi continui fallimenti nel portare a termine il compito datogli da Voldemort [75] [77].
Totalmente irrispettoso verso chiunque, le uniche persone che mostra di temere sono Silente e il Barone Sanguinario, fantasma della casa di Serpeverde.
Prende parte alla battaglia di Hogwarts e ai festeggiamenti dopo di essa [78]. Ritenuto da molti inadatto al ruolo e incapace, Caramell chiede costantemente aiuto a Silente nelle prime fasi del suo mandato e dimostra una notevole stima e simpatia nei confronti di Harry.
Questa culmina ne L'Ordine della Fenice con il tentativo di estendere il controllo del Ministero su Hogwarts, affidando a Dolores Umbridge l'incarico di insegnante e in seguito di inquisitrice e preside.
Prima di ricoprire il nuovo incarico ne Il principe mezzosangue , Scrimgeour era a capo del Dipartimento degli Auror e per questo si presenta come un uomo risoluto, scorbutico e d'azione.
Quando Voldemort prende d'assalto il Ministero ne I Doni della Morte , Scrimgeour si rifiuta di rivelare informazioni su Harry e viene pertanto ucciso [82] [83].
O'Tusoe partecipa assieme ai Mangiamorte alla battaglia di Hogwarts, dove viene sconfitto da Arthur Weasley. Dopo la sconfitta di Voldemort cessa l'effetto della maledizione Imperius e O'Tusoe viene sostituito alla guida del Ministero da Kingsley Shacklebolt [82].
Barty Crouch Sr. Crouch sembrava favorito al ruolo di futuro Ministro della Magia, quando il suo stesso figlio, Barty Crouch Jr.
In questo ruolo agisce come organizzatore della coppa del mondo di Quidditch e del Torneo Tremaghi ne Il calice di fuoco.
Su pressione della moglie morente, tuttavia, Crouch all'insaputa di tutti fa evadere il figlio da Azkaban e lo pone sotto la maledizione Imperius e le cure dell'elfa Winky per tenerlo d'occhio.
Voldemort e Peter Minus vengono a sapere della sua evasione e lo liberano dall'incantesimo, ponendo invece sotto la maledizione Imperius lo stesso Crouch.
Egli riesce infine a contrastare l'incantesimo e a evadere, ma viene ucciso dal figlio, trasfigurato in un osso e seppellito nel terreno di Hogwarts [84].
Da giovane era un giocatore di Quidditch attivo come battitore nelle Vespe di Wimbourne e nella nazionale inglese. In passato venne scagionato dall'accusa di fornire informazioni ai Mangiamorte, sebbene da allora Barty Crouch Sr.
Ne L'Ordine della Fenice architetta l'assalto dei Dissennatori ai danni di Harry nel tentativo di mettere a tacere i suoi moniti sul ritorno di Voldemort.
Il suo approccio teorico alla materia e la sua ostinazione nel negare il ritorno di Voldemort portano alcuni studenti, guidati da Harry, a istituire un gruppo clandestino di preparazione pratica alla Difesa contro le Arti Oscure chiamato Esercito di Silente.
In questa sua nuova veste allontana Sibilla Cooman e Rubeus Hagrid dall'insegnamento e istituisce una brigata d'inquisizione con il potere di far rispettare le regole dell'istituto e infliggere punizioni corporali ai trasgressori.
Attirata con l'inganno nella Foresta Proibita da Hermione, la Umbridge si imbatte nei centauri e li tratta con disprezzo finendo aggredita.
Harry si introduce nel suo ufficio e le sottrae il medaglione di Serpeverde che la donna aveva acquistato da Mundungus Fletcher.
Dopo la caduta di Voldemort viene processata e rinchiusa ad Azkaban per i suoi crimini. Il suo nome, "Dolores", deriva dal latino dolor e significa "dolore", "sofferenza", mentre il cognome "Umbridge" deriva dall'inglese to take umbradge , ossia "offendere", "umiliare" [85].
Ne Il calice di fuoco riesce comunque a mettersi in contatto sporadicamente con Harry, per il quale diviene una sorta di figura paterna e un intimo confidente.
Quando Silente riunisce l'Ordine della Fenice, Sirius mette a disposizione come ritrovo la vecchia casa ereditata dai suoi genitori a Grimmauld Place , dove si trasferisce.
Da bambino venne morso da Fenrir Greyback trasformandosi da allora in lupo mannaro a ogni luna piena. Per essergli di conforto durante le sue trasformazioni, i suoi amici James Potter , Sirius Black e Peter Minus , divennero degli Animagus.
I tre e Lupin, soprannominato "Lunastorta", crearono poi la Mappa del Malandrino , per facilitare le loro avventure e scherzi a Hogwarts.
Lupin si dimostra un insegnante competente ed entusiasmante e insegna a Harry l' Incanto Patronus per fronteggiare i Dissennatori, tuttavia una trasformazione incontrollata e un'indiscrezione di Severus Piton, che rivela pubblicamente la sua natura di licantropo, mettono fine alla sua carriera.
Dopo un lungo indugio causato dalla sua natura di licantropo, ne I Doni della Morte si sposa infine con Ninfadora Tonks e diviene padre di Teddy Lupin.
Non le piace il suo nome, per questo si fa chiamare "Tonks" o "Dora". Si innamora di Remus Lupin e, dopo gli indugi iniziali dell'uomo dovuti alla sua natura di lupo mannaro, i due si sposano all'inizio de I Doni della Morte e hanno un figlio: Teddy.
In seguito Tonks prende parte alla battaglia di Hogwarts in cui viene uccisa da Bellatrix Lestrange [30] [88]. Descritto come un uomo di colore alto e calvo, che porta un orecchino dorato ed ha una voce profonda e rassicurante, ne L'Ordine della Fenice Shacklebolt fa parte della scorta che accompagna Harry a Grimmauld Place e in seguito prende parte alla battaglia nell'Ufficio Misteri.
Ne Il principe mezzosangue lavora sotto copertura come guardia del corpo del primo ministro babbano su richiesta di Rufus Scrimgeour.
Ne Il calice di fuoco viene chiamato a Hogwarts come insegnante di Difesa contro le Arti Oscure ma prima dell'inizio delle lezioni viene catturato, imprigionato e impersonato da Barty Crouch Jr.
Ne I Doni della Morte viene messo a capo della spedizione che si occupa di prelevare Harry dalla casa dei Dursley, ma durante l'operazione viene abbandonato dal compagno Mundungus Fletcher e ucciso da Voldemort [90].
Compare inoltre al matrimonio di Bill Weasley e Fleur Delacour , dove Harry gli fa domande sul defunto preside [92].
Sono stati due grandi maghi e Auror che facevano parte del primo Ordine della Fenice. Un anno dopo la nascita del loro figlio, i due furono individuati da un gruppo di seguaci di Voldemort, Bellatrix Lestrange , suo marito Rodolphus , suo cognato Rabastan e Barty Crouch Jr.
Da allora sono ricoverati in modo permanente all'ospedale San Mungo, dove Neville e la nonna Augusta si recano regolarmente a trovarli [93].
Viene descritto come un mago eccentrico e facilmente eccitabile, che indossa sempre un cappello a cilindro. Dopo una serie di tentativi infruttuosi, ne Il calice di fuoco Voldemort riacquista nuovamente il suo corpo e minaccia di prendere nuovamente il controllo del mondo magico [94].
I Mangiamorte sono dei maghi oscuri al servizio di Voldemort, che come lui professano la supremazia dei maghi sui babbani e l'importanza della purezza di sangue ed eliminano chi si oppone ai loro piani di conquista.
Tutti i Mangiamorte presentano sul braccio sinistro un simbolo raffigurante un teschio dalla cui bocca esce un serpente, detto Marchio Nero.
Catturata e processata per aver torturato fino alla pazzia Frank e Alice Paciock assieme al marito e a Barty Crouch Jr. Ne I Doni della Morte tortura Hermione, prigioniera a Villa Malfoy, ritenendo che lei, Harry e Ron si siano introdotti nella sua camera blindata alla Gringott, dove tiene custodite la coppa di Tassorosso e la spada di Grifondoro affidatele da Voldemort.
Durante la fuga dei ragazzi dalla villa colpisce e uccide Dobby, giunto in loro soccorso. Partecipa infine alla battaglia di Hogwarts, dove uccide Ninfadora Tonks per poi essere uccisa da Molly Weasley [95].
Ne I Doni della Morte evade con il ritorno al potere di Voldemort e prende parte alla battaglia di Hogwarts [96]. Minus visse per dodici anni in forma di topo come Crosta, l'animale domestico dei Weasley, e fu affidato per ultimo a Ron.
Ne Il prigioniero di Azkaban Sirius e Lupin gli fanno confessare i suoi crimini, ma prima che possano giustiziarlo Harry si frappone e Minus riesce a fuggire e a ricongiungersi al suo signore Voldemort.
Ne Il calice di fuoco uccide Cedric Diggory e aiuta Voldemort a riottenere il proprio corpo, sacrificando la sua mano destra, che viene rimpiazzata da Voldemort con una d'argento.
Nel film invece viene colpito alle spalle e tramortito da Dobby. Barty Crouch Jr. Ne Il prigioniero di Azkaban viene incaricato di giustiziare l'ippogrifo Fierobecco , ma la creatura fugge grazie all'aiuto di Harry e Hermione.
Viene condannato e imprigionato ad Azkaban per l'omicidio di Gideon e Fabian Prewett, fratelli di Molly Weasley , ma fugge nell'evasione di massa de L'Ordine della Fenice e partecipa alla battaglia al Dipartimento dei Misteri.
Il suo doppio gioco venne scoperto grazie alla testimonianza di Igor Karkaroff. Tra i numerosi umani che ha infettato figura anche Remus Lupin.
Ne I Doni della Morte cattura Harry e i suoi compagni e li porta alla residenza dei Malfoy; in seguito partecipa alla battaglia di Hogwarts, dove viene sconfitto da Ron e Neville [].
Ne Il principe mezzosangue partecipa alla battaglia della Torre di Astronomia. Con l'aiuto del suo elfo domestico Kreacher , sottrae l' Horcrux racchiuso nel medaglione di Serpeverde, sostituendolo con un falso in cui inserisce un messaggio di sfida per Voldemort firmato R.
Alecto e Amycus Carrow sono due fratelli Mangiamorte. Dopo averla rinvenuta priva di sensi, Amycus minaccia di torturare gli studenti per scoprire chi l'ha colpita, arrivando a sputare in faccia alla professoressa McGranitt che si era opposta; per questo gesto viene colpito da Harry con la maledizione Cruciatus, perdendo i sensi.
Al termine della battaglia vengono processati e rinchiusi ad Azkaban [] []. Sono interpretati rispettivamente da Suzie Toase e Ralph Ineson.
Ne L'Ordine della Fenice viene inviata in missione insieme a Rubeus Hagrid dai giganti per convincerli a schierarsi contro Voldemort, tuttavia i due non riescono nell'impresa [].
Viene scelta per rappresentare la sua scuola al Torneo Tremaghi ne Il calice di fuoco. Al termine del torneo intraprende un lavoro part-time alla Gringott per migliorare il suo inglese; qui conosce Bill Weasley e se ne innamora.
Ne Il principe mezzosangue Fleur e Bill hanno in programma di sposarsi, sebbene l'atteggiamento della ragazza indisponga la famiglia di Bill.
Il matrimonio si celebra ne I Doni della Morte alla Tana e in seguito Fleur partecipa alla battaglia di Hogwarts insieme al marito.
La sua voglia di vincere la competizione a ogni costo lo porta a mostrare chiari favoritismi per il suo rappresentante Viktor Krum e a tentare di barare con ogni mezzo.
Ne Il calice di fuoco viene scelto come rappresentante della scuola di Durmstrang per partecipare al Torneo Tremaghi. Durante la prova finale viene posto da Barty Crouch Jr.
Essendo venuto a conoscenza del piano di Lucius Malfoy per liberare il Basilisco, ne La camera dei segreti tenta in tutti i modi di dissuadere Harry dal tornare a Hogwarts, dal momento che nutre una vera e propria venerazione per il ragazzo.
Ne Il calice di fuoco ottiene un impiego stipendiato a Hogwarts insieme agli altri elfi e procura a Harry l' Algabranchia per la seconda prova del Torneo Tremaghi.
Appare per la prima volta ne Il calice di fuoco alla coppa del mondo di quidditch, dove fa finta di tenere il posto al suo padrone per permettere a Barty Crouch Jr.
Crouch, irritato dal fatto che l'elfa ha disobbedito ai suoi ordini facendo quasi scappare il figlio, la licenzia, nonostante le suppliche di quest'ultima.
Winky quindi si trasferisce a Hogwarts insieme a Dobby, dove il preside Albus Silente li accoglie. L'elfa, tuttavia, ancora provata dal licenziamento, affoga le sue pene nell'alcool, costringendo Dobby a prendersi costantemente cura di lei [].
Viene trattato con durezza da Sirius, per il quale Kreacher rappresenta un legame con la famiglia che tanto odia; Kreacher, dal canto suo, detesta Sirius e lo insulta continuamente dietro le spalle.
A causa di un ordine ambiguo di Sirius, ne L'Ordine della Fenice Kreacher si rifugia da Narcissa Malfoy e tradisce il suo padrone innescando gli eventi che lo conducono alla morte.
Ne I Doni della Morte Harry scopre che Kreacher aveva accompagnato il suo padrone Regulus Black nella missione per recuperare l'Horcrux del medaglione di Serpeverde, ma che non era poi riuscito a distruggere l'artefatto che venne trafugato da Mundungus Fletcher.
Svolge il compito di gufo postino, recapitando lettere e pacchi da e per Harry; possiede un senso dell'orientamento e una resistenza elevati come tutti i pennuti che trasportano la corrispondenza nella serie , trovando da sola Sirius Black mentre questi era fuggitivo e recapitando un pacco dalla Francia da parte di Hermione.
Giunge in soccorso di Harry nella camera dei segreti, consegnandogli il Cappello parlante contenente la spada di Godric Grifondoro e salva il ragazzo dal veleno del Basilisco con le sue lacrime dal forte potere guaritivo.
Alla morte del suo padrone, dopo aver intonato un lamento funebre, scompare per sempre []. In passato era l'animale domestico di Rubeus Hagrid , ma venne accusato ingiustamente da Tom Riddle di essere il mostro della camera dei segreti e fu quindi cacciato dal castello e Hagrid espulso.
Harry e Ron lo incontrano ne La camera dei segreti , in cui aiuta loro a capire la natura del mostro della camera e dove si trova l'ingresso, ma in seguito li fa attaccare dalla sua progenie.
Muore ne Il principe mezzosangue e viene seppellito accanto alla casa di Hagrid. Al funerale partecipa anche Horace Lumacorno per ricavare del prezioso veleno dalle zanne della creature da rivendere sul mercato nero; in quest'occasione Harry riesce inoltre a estrarre il ricordo degli Horcrux dal professore [].
Hagrid lo incontra ne L'Ordine della Fenice durante la sua missione presso i giganti per conto di Silente. Durante la battaglia di Hogwarts affronta i giganti di Voldemort [].
Viene decapitata da Neville Paciock con la spada di Grifondoro durante la battaglia di Hogwarts []. Nella serie Animali fantastici viene rivelato che Nagini era in origine una Maledictus, ossia una strega in grado di trasformarsi in serpente e condannata poi a rimanere per sempre in quelle vesti.
Ha una memoria prodigiosa e ricorda perfettamente le caratteristiche di tutte le bacchette che ha venduto, incluse quelle di Harry e di Tom Riddle.
Viene liberato dalla sua prigionia da Dobby e durante la sua convalescenza a Villa Conchiglia fornisce a Harry informazioni sulla Bacchetta di Sambuco e sul funzionamento delle bacchette magiche [].
