Every time I view it, I notice something new - strange looks, people plastered against windows, people running in the background, and, most of the, the incredible creepy sight of Robert Duvall as a priest on a swing.

Yes, you read that correctly. Many, many touches the viewer will notice on multiple viewings. It is this attention to the smallest details makes this film absolutely brilliant.

An unnerving paranoia thriller with aliens! The alien practical effects are realistic and grotesque, the horror builds with the paranoia, and the tension and pacing are faster than the original.

The characters speak with a knowledge of psychological phenomena and rationalize everything they are seeing until they can no longer ignore the truth before them.

The slow build-up to the shocking finale is really gripping. Kaufman uses odd Dutch angles, slow and fast tracking shots, hyper cuts, moody lighting, and fast zooms to create an eerie atmosphere.

You feel like the characters are always being watched by those that have changed. Zeitlin fuses thundering classical with Chicago style jazz for a haunting fusion score.

Kaufman is particularly good at shooting shadows, silhouettes, and angles to keep the audience on their toes. The sound design keeps Invasion of the Body Snatchers mostly quiet or silent so that all the sounds echo and reverberate deeply.

You hear every gross gurgle, human scream, and alien shriek in the movie loudly. Donald Sutherland is riveting as the lead.

His health code inspector is full of morals and decency. He portrays his character as kindly, so you empathize with Sutherland immediately. He plays Invasion of the Body Snatchers calm, which allows him to be cool throughout.

Brooke Adams is adorable as the love interest and the heroine of the story. She has great chemistry with Sutherland. I like her charm and panic alike.

Veronica Cartwright is astounding in how gripping her hysteria gets. She is perhaps the most paranoid and sympathetic character by the end.

Jeff Goldblum is his usual quirky self, but much younger. Leonard Nimoy, on the other hand, is stoic and intense. He gives a great performance as the foil to Sutherland and Goldblum.

His ideas bounce around in your head as the perfect distraction from the terrors surrounding the characters. Robert Duvall even has a cameo as a priest on a swing in the opening scene!

Can you believe director Philip Kaufman got the director of the original film to play the taxi driver during the driving to the airport chase sequence?!

In all, Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a fantastically shot film that will entertain you with spectral alien disturbances and compelling human drama alike!

Philip Kaufman should be proud of directing such an iconic, influential, and cool sci-fi thriller. This is a starling example of the era of allegorical, depressing, and moody sci-fi films.

The camera lingers on things for a second too long and a second too short. The head of a pod-person either crumples or explodes in dark red goo.

Donald Sutherland's mighty mustache regularly out-acts Jeff Goldblum. In short, a gem. I wouldn't get too hung up on whatever message the movie tries to tell.

It's scary enough to think your friends, family, and someday you will be replaced by something "off. What's more devastating is how efficiently they accomplish their goals: aliens with laser guns and metal UFOs we could fight, but how do you stop your coworkers, your neighbors, and your boyfriend?

The plot gets a little tangled it's pretty much just Elizabeth and Matthew running, and running into the wrong people , and some of the details about the aliens confused.

Sometimes the aliens show no emotion at all, and other times they seem to be able to put on just enough to fool the humans.

Is there some sort of hive mind going on? They all act in unison at times, but a pod person also invites others to ask him questions about unloading a truck.

The movie, probably for the best, keeps the details of assimilation a creepy mystery. Especially that it can sometimes catastrophically fail See all reviews.

Top reviews from other countries. We currently live in an age of endless movie sequels, reboots and remakes but back in , such regurgitation was not commonplace.

The original film had grown in stature since its release, with critics regarding it as one of the better genre films from that period, largely because they began to see the alien 'body snatchers' as a metaphor for either communism or conformity, depending on which side of the political divide they happened to be on.

The genius of Kaufman's remake was to supplant the setting of the film from the moral certainties of small town America to the amoral uncertainties of the American city.

As in the original, there are no large spaceships hovering in the skies above to herald an imminent alien invasion, or grave pronouncements on the news about our certain extinction, for this was an invasion by stealth; and by setting it in the city, where people don't really know their neighbours, it is so much more plausible that it goes on unnoticed.

Largely unnoticed, for we have an engaging group of individuals who perceive that something strange is going on and club together to resist being taken over and forever losing that which makes them human - their individuality.

After all, it would be so much easier to lay back, close your eyes and submit. In many ways, the film is about defiance in the face of authority and freedom of individual thought.

In order to heighten the increasing paranoia and mistrust, Kaufman uses strange camera angles, bizarre sounds and shots of people silently gathering.

In my opinion, it is one of the finest remakes ever made! As well as the film, there are the obligatory extras and they are all worth a look but my favourite is, 'Discussing The Pod,' which is basically, novelist and film critic, Kim Newman discussing the movie with filmmakers Norman J.

Warren and Ben Wheatley, which is heaven for a sci-fi geek like myself. I won't mention anything about the film itself as there are already a ton of reviews here for the Blu-ray version.

It's a great classic remake and I enjoyed it so no complaints there. However, I just want to point out that when I received my copy I did not get the booklet.

Reading down the comments, another person did not get the book either. Going by the Amazon release date, this Blu-ray title was released in so maybe Arrow stopped printing the booklets after a while and if that's the case then Amazon should really change the description because it's false advertising and a great disappointment to the purchaser who is expecting a booklet and finds there isn't one.

The Movie Diorama. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a rare example of how remakes equal their originals. Now, having never seen the 50s original and only seeing the modern remake 'The Invasion', I was sceptical about the acclaim this received.

How many times can the same novel be adapted and still be enthralling as the source material? Turns out several times.

This was incredibly eerie and edgy for its time. A health inspector and his colleague are in the midst of a gradual alien invasion where the rest of society start to act differently than before.

The epitome of portraying totalitarianism I've always wanted to use that word in a review! It's a timeless and always relevant story that seamlessly blends sci-fi with politics.

Creating true order from falsified order. The inability of the freedom to act, the relinquishment of feeling That being a flourishing gelatinous alien race taking over planets by duplicating their hosts once they fall to sleep.

It plays out like a classic sci-fi, but the horror elements crop up occasionally. The first five minutes were surreal and entrancing, it reeled me in immediately.
