What he did took courage and sacrifice, to selflessly throw oneself upon a grenade to expose a weapon of tyranny that was being turned upon the American People and the world, should be lauded with medals and accolades, not persecution and banishment.
Snowden, in my opinion, is the living embodiment of what a true American patriot is, for it is The People who steer the course of the nation, not it's government, and it was high time the government came to understand that fact!
For Thomas Jefferson said it best Edward Snowden is the living embodiment of that statement. Very accurate portrayal of facts released about NSA programs.
I can't know if the accuracy of the emotional and intellectual path Snowden followed, but that felt plausible and is all the more dramatic because of its simplicity.
Snowden broke a trust in revealing secret programs, but he would have broken a different trust had he not done so. I would offer him a plea bargain: 6-month sentence in a minimum-security Fed prison for theft of documents, AND the Medal of Freedom.
Saying you don't care if the Govt spys on Americans because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don't care if they limit freedom of speech because you have nothing to say!
Awesome movie! Once again Oliver Stone taking shots at the country that gives him his freedom.
This "movie" is nothing more than an attempt to elevate the traitor Snowden to hero status. While Oliver Stone did a good job of making Snowden understandable, and even to a certain extent likable, I could not forget that the secrets he exposed did a great deal of harm to the country which had done so much for him.
Stone offers up a plethora of footage showing terrorists being blown up, and then excuses the targets themselves with anecdotal tales of mistakes that were actually are an inevitable part of war.
As for Snowden himself, he ultimately comes off as conflicted and pathetically weak, and I think, that despite this sugar coated version of his story, he will rightfully go down in history alongside such despicable figures as Benedict Arnold.
Had he remained loyal to his nation, it could have been otherwise. Sad really and in the end, a tale of personal failure, and not bravery.
Matito Top Contributor: Guitars. The movie was ridiculous, with banal lines and terrible acting. The applause for Snowden at the end was beyond absurd.
Snowden illegally gathered a large amount of sensitive information by using the login ID and passwords of as many as 25 of his coworkers which he obtained under the guise of performing checks for technical problems.
Most of these 25 were fired for their carelessness. All of this is public information see journalists Michael Kelly and Fred Kaplan.
Snowden was no illustrious spy, just an unpatriotic criminal that thought he could shock the world. This movie is utter alternate-reality Oliver Stone crap.

They say without Edward Snowden there would have been no Julian Assange. Ex CIA computer analyst Snowden got a little luckier after 21 refused asylum applications being allowed safe haven from Vladimir Putin in Moscow where no doubt he has his work cut out to earn his keep.
Snowden basically gets in trouble for telling the world that CIA has just about everyone of us under hourly surveillance without a need for a warrant via your every keystroke, mouse click, sms and net search even your externally remotely controlled webcam.
The thing about films like these , true as it is, shocking as it is, for most of us it is no longer news that you can't trust anybody and that privacy is now a myth and paranoia is the norm.
Interesting to see the Pilgrim Forefathers of all this as it were Educationally recommended. Letztendlich bin ich bei der Bewertung zwischen 4 und 5 Sternen hin und her gerissen.
Translate review to English. Considered a hero by some and a traitor by others, Snowden is presented as a modest self-sacrificing individual whose conscience is wracked by an ethical quandary as to whether to make public a world-wide conspiracy which he was a part of, namely the illegal gathering of information by the United States Government.
In exposing this global cyber surveillance Snowden became one of the most wanted men in the world, living in voluntary exile at a great personal cost to himself.
I was certainly absorbed and fascinated by the narrative unfolding before me. I will definitely be watching this again. Enjoyable and it left me with a definite well what would I have done?
One half of me the part that is ex military says you could of gone higher with your issues, caused enough waves as to make a mess via an official route.
The other half of me, the parent and the technology user is horrified at the level of intrusion portrayed. To the point I was talking with hubby on whether we delete all online accounts to which he replied its too late!!
Oliver Stone has directed some outstanding films, with box office hits based on both fact and fiction.
This factual depiction of Snowden is first rate and for anyone totally unfamiliar with the story, it should prove to be quite an eye opener.
It takes the subject matter seriously and gives great insight into the extent to which everyone is under surveillance.
